Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 936: Shri Visalaksi (ōṃ viśālākṣyai namaḥ

The Divine Mother has large eyes.

The Divine Mother has much wider eyes. She is residing in Kashi (Varanasi) as Visalakshi. Her views can reach everywhere in this universe. All universal planets and galaxies are all under Her view and control. During the Pralaya, She is absorbing within Her all-universal things and beings. She, Visalakshi Devi, is watching everything in this universe. She is controlling creation, preservation and dissolution of this universe.

Visalam means wide with no obstruction or stoppage. In a road, stone obstructions are added in to ensure road users correctly stay in those two lanes; this is called sala. Side wall obstruction is added on so that people can do work within those four-sided areas. The Divine Mother has no obstructions for Her views. Her eyes can see anything and everything in this universe. The Visalakshi Devi is the spouse of Visvanathan in Kashi or Varanasi; Varanasi is one of the Shakti Peetha. Visalam is also a land area on northern India to Nepal.

The great beauty of the Divine Mother’s eyes are emphasized in this Namam. Her eyes can reach all places in this universe.

The Divine Mother is worshipped in Kashi (Varanasi) as Visalakshi.

The Divine Mother has large wider eyes.
