Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 909: Shri Sama gana priya (ōṃ sāmagānapriyāyai namaḥ)

The Divine Mother is fond of hearing the Sama Veda chanting.

She likes very much Sama ganam or song. Sama Veda is recited mostly with good music. Any song should represent its content. For a song, adding a surname will be appropriate. For example, for a very senior person like the Prime Minister of the country, the guards are appointed to safeguard him; the guards will mostly use glossy uniform or dress. Many common people may consider the guard himself as the Prime Minister. Here in the country’s Prime Ministers place, the Sama Veda and in guards’ place the music are referred. In trying to make the music big, the Veda content should not be lost. To recite the Sama Veda, there are restrictions as to how much music can be used. So, a musician cannot use all his musical skills in reciting the Sama Veda.

Sama Veda is wonderful to recite with good music. Due to continuous reciting Sama Veda though ages, accompanying music has reached high level. When we talk, our word’s meaning and the way that word had been used is said to have a greater role. Like Lord Kannan’s flute music mesmerized lives of people, Samaganam brings happiness to people who hear that. The Divine Mother is handling many billions of universal lives. If all of them enjoy hearing Samaganam, then the Divine Mother also likes it.  She is fond of Samaganam.

When an Yagam is performed, the divinities are coming to accept the Yaga offerings; Sama Veda is to praise the glories of such divinities. Yagams are done to satisfy the divinities. The Divine Mother when She wants to accept the Yaga offerings, She is pleased to hear also the glories of Sama Veda. Those who have reached the Brahman, in their ultimate happiness they sing. This is said to be Sama ganam. The Divine Mother is satisfied in Samagana singing. She is fond of both Sama Veda and Samaganam.

Splitting the Nama as Samaga + ana +Priya, we get the meaning that She loves the singer of Sama songs (Samagana) as her own prana (ana).

The Divine Mother is fond of hearing the Sama Veda chanting.
