Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 915: Shri Svabhava madhura (ōṃ svabhāvamadhurāyai namaḥ)

The Divine Mother’s inherent nature is sweet. She is naturally liked by all.

All the love the child gets does not slip from it is basic nature. Such a child is not affected by the universal happenings; the Divine Mother is ever in the child’s state. A magnet attracts iron material, likewise, with Her natural sweetness, She is attracting all universal beings to Her.

Biological mothers give happiness to her children. The Divine Mother is in many Mothers forms to be linked by all universal beings. Each soul with its mindset, associates with a similar mindset being and It gets away from other mindset people. But the Divine Mother provides grace to all good and bad people. A mature yogi gets Brahma Jnana insight. She is fond of such yogis. With Her sweet nature, She is converting those evil-minded beings to correct path. The cow accepts its ward running to it. The Divine Mother accepts all devotees with Her sweet nature. This is the inner meaning of this Namam.

Due to their association with others, people may become sweet in dealing with others. The Divine Mother is always Herself, sweet to all beings. Her own Self is always sweet. So, She does not need others’ association or prompting to be sweet to others. She is abiding in Madhura city as Meenakshi Devi. With Her presence (Svabhava) as Goddess Meenakshi Devi graces Madhura city.”

According to Bhaskaracarya, the name can be interpreted also as “She who bears the yoke of the wise.” Yoke is a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plough or cart that they will carry. The meaning is that the Divine Mother, by Her power, becomes the yoke of the chariot of life of the wisest men. When the horses run forward the yoke takes the chariot along the goal.

Several additional interpretations have been given for this Namam. She is at the front of those who shed the light of the Self. She is sweet to those who show absence of desire, anger and other negative qualities. She gives to Her devotees, the nectar that is naturally in Her.

The Divine Mother’s inherent nature is sweet.
