In Namams 64 to 84, we will be seeing the Divine Mother
destroying the Bhandasura.
The Divine Mother whose mere glance at Lord Kamesvara led to the
birth of their beautiful son Sri Ganesvara.
The Divine Mother’s forces were fatigued due to the war with Bhandasura’s
forces. The demonic powers (Bhanda’s) prevent and obstruct the path of
celestial beings and sages. They also prevented the progression of the
liberation seeking souls. The Divine Mother looked for a solution to these
problems.
The Brahmanda Purana relates this incident. When demons obstructed
the path of the celestial beings (Devas) and sages, the Divine Mother glanced
at Lord Kamesavara and smiled. That radiance resulted in a new deity being born
with elephant face and ichor (the fluid that flows like blood in the veins of
gods) flowing from the temples. He is
called Sri Ganeshvara, the obstacles remover. He destroyed all the obstacles /
hindrances for the celestial beings. Lord Ganesvara is worshipped for removal
of all obstacles at the start of all auspicious events.
Ganesvara also can mean the deity controlling the Ganesvara
mantra to remove the evil spiritual effects. Ganesvara is Knowledge based. Once
the devotees understand Ganesvara, they will understand Lord Siva and the
Divine Mother. By worshipping Lord Ganesvara, Lord Siva and the Divine Mother
are worshipped also. The Divine Mother is pleased at the creation of Ganesvara.
The human body has eight parts namely the organs of action; the
organs of perception; the mind; the five prana; five elements; kama; karma and
avidya (nescience or ignorance). Lord Ganesvara is presiding over these eight
parts.
