Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 748: Shri Roga Parvata dambholi (ōṃ rōgaparvatadambhōlayē namaḥ)

The Divine Mother is the thunderbolt-like pestle that shatters the mountains of diseases.

The Divine Mother is the Vajra weapon shattering mountains of diseases. Vajra weapons can destroy the unmovable mountains. The bodies of souls in samsarasagara (Birth Death Life Cycle) go through severe diseases due to their karmic Bearden. Samsarasagaram is the biggest source of disease. The Divine Mother is like a Vajra weapon which will destruct and eliminate death and disease. The souls with their immense inner strength and patience gain Vajra weapon like strength. This is to limit their birth and death cycle with the Divine Mother’s grace.

Human suffering can come in many forms. When disease occurs in the human body, it can look huge like a mountain. It can cause worry as to what will happen later. Mountain obstructs the things behind it. Likewise, the disease hides humans’ future; It makes humans focus only on the disease leaving all other worries aside. Mountains cannot be moved away but can be destroyed using strong Vajra weapons; after which the things behind the mountains can be seen.  Indra’s Vajra weapon can destroy the mountains. Likewise, the Divine Mother’s grace is a strong weapon, to clear the samsara disease.

Dambholi is Indra’s Thunderbolt (vajra weapon). Lord Krishna says in Gita “I am Vajra among the weapons”. For the mountain range of diseases, the Divine Mother is like a Vajra weapon. Her Darshan, touch and embracement are needed to overpower the samsara diseases. This truth will be experienced and understood through the personal experiences of the devotees.

There is a reference here to an ancient story. It is said that long ago, mountains were able to fly, and that Indra cut off their wings with this vajra weapon forcing them to be stationary. Thus, it was Indra’s thunderbolt that protected the Earth from the attacks by the mountains. Likewise, a glance from the Divine Mother instantly stops all diseases and attacks like thunderbolt.

away the mountains of devotees’ diseases.
