Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 8: Shri Ragasrupa Patchaitchaya (OM rAgasvarUpapAshADhyAyai namaH)

The Divine Mother has the affection or attachment (in the form of Pasam in one of her four hands) through which she is controlling the souls but not destroying them. She does this in order to take them to higher stages of maturity in their life cycle. This can be the closest interpretation of this Namam.

All souls have various forms or shapes depending up on their life cycle stages. (Plants are supposedly at stage one. The humans similarly are having sixth stage which is more close to the Almighty). They all have attachment to the Divine Mother, who helps them in their maturing process to reach the Almighty.

The souls themselves have attachments to higher order souls. For example the dogs would have good attachment to their owners. Even other animals such as an Elephant by the name Govinda was said to have immense attachment to Lord Guruvayoorappa in carrying the Lord’s image or picture while the Lord is out of the temple in street processions. Every one of us would have some sort of attachments with our pet animals or a friend or any other human being. These attachments would be both ways, meaning that the lower order soul looking up and a higher order soul looking down or leveling with his pet.

These types of attachments are said to be the controls of the Divine Mother. This is in the process of helping a soul achieve a higher stage in its life cycle.
