Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 10: Shri Mano Rupeksu Kodanda (OM manorUpekShukodaNDAyai namaH)

The Divine Mother holds in her front left hand a sugarcane bow. Mind principle is represented in this sugarcane bow.

Plants do not have a mind. Animals also feel the joy and sorrow. A human being is blessed with a mind base. The humans with this mind can feel the joy and sorrow alike. This is helping the soul to mature. The souls find attachment to the helping ones to mature further. On same token, the humans will keep away from the ones causing them harm though this mind based approach. For humans the mind is the key to bring them to higher stages nearing the Almighty. The one with the mind is called a man.

The bottom part of the sugarcane which started the growing process earlier is sweeter. The top part of the sugarcane which is in later part of growth is less sweet. This is a good comparison to humans. The persons who had lived longer will have the experiences. This is equal to the bottom part of the sugarcane. The people with lesser experiences are equal to the top portion of the sugarcane.

Bow is made of materials which can be easily bent. The Divine Mother is holding a sweet and moistureous sugarcane bow which is to relate to her kindness to her devotees through this mind concept.
