Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 340: Shri Vilasini (OM vilAsinyai namaH)

In Namams 275 to365, the Divine Mother’s  many forms providing benefits to Her devotees in great details are discussed.

The Divine Mother is playful.

Vilasam is description of a place or person; it can mean fun or playful.

The Divine Mother likes to play; She is in playing form also. She is explaining that the universal nature is Herself; She enjoys fun. Soul’s true form is Anantham or Brahman. All levels of souls are involved in fun in some way; only the matured souls are able to visualize the Brahman or the Divine Mother. When the souls go through fun, they try to understand the Divine Mother well, if not fully. The Divine Mother is fully involved in fun. Kanchi Kamakodi Peedam is Her playing field where She sits in.

One part of Maya covers the Brahman from normal human beings; the other part of the Maya shows something non- existent as existent and existent things as non-existent; shows one as many; colourless light passing through a red glass is projected as red light. This Maya makes the things from Brahman look as non-Brahman.

The mud is used to create many objects used; the base is mud but it is hidden or forgotten due to Maya. Similarly, the Divine Mother has created many creatures in this universe with embodied souls.

Vilasa is Maya which has its power of projection. The Divine Mother’s power conceals the real truth and deludes the mind by projecting the visible universe with many names and forms. Bhaskararaya says, “Vilasa is the Divine Mother’s Power of projection”.

Vilasini is the one who reside in vila, which is Brahmarandhra in thousand-petaled lotus; so the Divine Mother lives in Brahmarandhra and merges with Sadashiva to indulge in play. Also the Brahmarandhra is an area in the crown in human body where susumna ends. The yogin’s soul leaves the body by breaking through this Brahmarandhra. The Divine Mother lives here, with crores (tens of millions) of Rudras.
