Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 65: Shri Bhandasura Vadhodyukta Sakthi Sena Samanvita (OM bhaNDAsuravadhodyuktashaktisenAsamanvitAyai namaH)

In Namams 64 to 84, we will be seeing the Divine Mother destroying the Bhandasura.

The Divine Mother has an army of Goddesses in battle ready state to defeat Bhandasura.

Lord Kamesavaran (Siva) incinerated Kama or cupid into ashes using the fire from his third eye. One of the Lord Siva’s assistant deities using his power of penance created a powerful being from the ashes. Lord Brahma called him Bhanda. Since he was created from ashes, Bhanda turn out to be a demon (asura).

Bhanda did severe penance and got from Lord Siva all the boons for his own protection. Being a demon, he started attacking others including the celestial beings and Sages. Indra, the chief of the celestial beings started a new Yagam to please the Divine Mother. The Divine Mother rose from the yaga fire. She assembled an army of Goddesses ready to fight the Bhanda.

Bhanda means unashamed. Asu means life. Ra means the one who destroys. Bhandasura destroyed many lives with no shame and no conscience. This was due to his ignorance, which made him to kill others and to cause violence.

Bhandasura is alive in every one of us. The seeker has to destroy his attachments, his body consciousness, his thoughts and emotions in the fire of tapas to remove his ignorance. The Divine Mother’s devotees when they try to gratify their desires needed for living in this materialistic world would not get aggressive. Their demonic qualities such as their mind and senses would be under control. The Divine Mother blesses Her devotees with all the required pleasures in this world. She grants to her devotees both pleasures of this world and liberation.

This Namam can also mean that the Divine Mother destroys the Bhandasura qualities in her devotees and grants them liberation.

In Namams 64 to 84, we will be seeing the Divine Mother destroying the Bhandasura.

The Divine Mother is praised by many celestial beings (Devas) and Sages. The meaning of this Namam can be that the Divine Mother is being praised for helping celestial beings (Devas) and Sages in many ways.

Bhandasura due to his ignorance had forgotten his position and tortured celestial beings (Devas) and Sages. In Meru Mountain, celestial beings (Devas) and Sages did a Yagam seeking the Divine Mother’s help to save them from Bhandasura. She came out of the Yaga fire. She assembled and assigned duties to her army of Goddesses to get ready for war with Bhandasura.

The Divine Mother is present everywhere in the universe. She can help Her devotees without any delay. When Bhandasura was later defeated, celestial beings (Devas) and Sages kept praising the Divine Mother for Her might. Her real power (majesty) is incomparable to any other being in this universe. She is embodiment of supreme self.

May the Divine Mother help me in my performing my duties well and reach Her for my salvation.

Lalita Sahasranama Stotra, the hymn of 1000 names of Lalita is the best one followed by of all. The spiritual masters have firmly established that the hymn contains the essence of the Mantra Shastra (the science of holy chants) of the entire world.

Goddess Lalita Tripura Sundari is described in great detail as extremely beautiful, gorgeous, and erotically inclined. The Lalitha Sahasranama illustrates her charismas from head to toe. She is described as the one who recreates the universe.

Lalita is called Tripura Sundari as Her Body consists of three Shaktis that is Brahma, Vaishnavi and Raudri. Lalita has Kali`s determination and Durga`s charm, grace and complexion. Lalita is said to be four-armed and clad in red dress. She is the heavily ornamented and sits on a lotus seat laid on a golden throne.

It is also to be noted that by religiously chanting Sree Lalitha Sahasra namavali, we are seeking the blessings of the universal mother. And how can a mother ignore her children when they are in distress or duress or troubles of any sorts? So keep utmost faith in her and start chanting.

Lalitha Sahasranamam can be chanted in two different ways. In Stotram form, all 1,000 namams are separated into stotrams of a few namams each and recited in this way. In mantra form, each namam is said individually, preceded by “Aum” and followed by “Namah”. Mantra form is commonly used to recite Lalitha Sahasranamam during archana. Both ways, however, are equally effective.

Additionally, late Kanchi Periyavar had recommended very highly to recite Lalita Shasranama regularly for anything and everything in one’s life and to get liberation or salvation without a birth and death cycle for the soul.

Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 63: Shri Kama Dayini (OM kAmadAyinyai namaH)

From Namam 52 to 63,we will be seeing the Divine Mother’s residence description.

The Divine Mother grants all wishes of the devotee.

The Divine Mother grants out to the devotee whatever they pray for and seek from Her. She also provides what the devotee need without his asking. There are four things: Kama, Tharma, Artha and Moksa which she provides to Her devotee.

She has the kind and beautiful eye sight. In gross form if the devotee desires and prays to reach her feet, She guides the devotee such that he or she will attain Her feet for getting Mukthi or Salvation (with no more birth and death cycle). In essence, the meaning of this namam can be understood as that She gives out to devotees whatever they wish from Her and more.

This namam can further be interpreted as She who brings good fortune (ayini) to Lord Siva (Kamada).

One other way to look at this namam is the one that She gives or generates the desire among the devotees to reach Her feet. Ego is needed for desire to arise. Is She Ahankara Rupini? The Divine Mother or the Maha -Tripura - Sundari sitting on the Pancha Brahma Asana as in SriCakaram is also known as Bhavani. She is ego filled for creating of the universe.

I pray to the Divine Mother to grant my wishes to eliminate my ignorance, to gain knowledge and to reach Her feet for my salvation.

Close enough meanings for:
Kama: desire
Dayini: one who bestows
Ayini: mother
Kamada: giving out what is wished, granting desire
Ahankara Rupini: Egoistic lady.

Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 62: Shri Kamakshi (OM kAmAkShyai namaH)

From Namam 52 to 63,we will be seeing the Divine Mother’s residence description.

The Divine Mother’s eyes awaken desire. She has beautiful and attractive eyes. She acts as the eyes for Lord Kamesvaran.

The desire is not physical enjoyment. For the devotee the final desire is reaching Her feet and getting Mukthi (salvation).

Her eyes Sarasvathi (Ka) and Laksmi (Ma) respectively represent knowledge and material wealth. For a devotee these are his goals in worshipping Her. Both desires for the devotee are as natural as Her eyes, which shower generous blessings on Her devotees.

In earlier Namam 18 “Vaktra Laksmi Parivaha Calan Minabha Locana”, we saw that the fish never closes its eye in order to look after its child. Like the fish, the Divine Mother’s eyes are never closed. She looks after the needs of Her devotees always with Her opened eyes.

Abirami Bhatter in verse 69 of the Abirami Anthathi mentions that the Divine Mother’s eye has kindness and power to provide the things the devotee pray for, especially Knowledge and Material Wealth.
The Divine Mother was born as the daughter of Dakshan. When Dakshan mistreated Her husband Lord Siva, She immolated Dakshan, his people and herself in Dakshan’s Yaga fire.

Lord Siva was holding her gross body on his shoulders and wandering around. At that time Lord Narayanan (Mahavishnu) used his Cakaram to split the Divine Mother’s body into 51 parts which fell all over the Indian continent. The Divine mother’s Kanchi or an ornament worn over the waist fell in Kanchipuram in Tamilnadu, India. As result, Kanchipuram has gained special powers. The Lord Brahma did a Yakam in Kanchipuram and he got what he wanted. He gave the name Kamakshi to the Divine Mother in Kanchipuram. Earlier, Kaman or cupid had been destroyed by Lord Kameswaran completely. This Kamakshi was the one who helped Kaman to get his life back.

Kamakshi is the gross form of infinite consciousness. In subtle form, she is the Kundalini sakthi or power.

I pray to the Divine Mother Kamakshi, seeking Knowledge and Material Wealth.
