Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 40: Shri Manikya Mukuta Kara Janu Dvaya Virajita (OM mANikyamukuTAkArajAnudvayavirAjitAyai namaH)

The Divine Mother’s each of the two knee joints below HER thighs, is like a single piece of ruby (red in colour). They appear like a crown on each knee.  Other way of saying this can be: The Divine Mother’s two knees are looking like crowns which are made of precious rubies in deep red in colour.
We have seen in earlier namams that the Divine Mother is red in colour like an early morning raising Sun. This red colour of the Divine mother is also confirmed by Abirami Bhatter in his first verge in Abirami Anthathi.

Manikya: Kind of reddish ruby used in jewelry making.

Crown: This is usually used to cover the ladies’ centre portion of the head. Circular ornamental head dress worn by a monarch as a symbol of authority. This is made of or decorated with precious metals and jewels. The Divine Mother’s Crown is made with precious deep red rubies.

Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 136: Shri Nitya (OM nityAyai namaH)

In Namam 132 to 187, the Divine Mother’s Japarupam or Formlessness will be the described.

The Divine Mother is everlasting. She is eternal, present forever.

She does not undergo dissolution in the usual three periods of time; namely past, present and future. She is indeed not changeable and not destructible.

The cloud, falling snow, frozen snow, rain and river, they are but names of different forms, of the basic element, the water. Water will not lose its basic structure in all of these forms. Likewise, the Divine Mother holds Her basic Self which is everlasting.

Universe has three main phases; namely creation, sustaining and destruction The Divine Mother with Lord Siva’s unison is controlling all three phases.

For the devotee, just having the devotion to the Divine Mother will give him the everlasting state of salvation.

The Divine Mother has 14 Nitya deities with moon’s growing phase. And again, the same 14 Nitya deities in moon’s waning phase in reverse order. The moon growing phase is till Dasami, the  tenth day from new moon day. And the moon’s waning phase is till Shasti or sixth day from full moon day.   The day - to –day principal deity is Nitya.

The Divine Mother is eternal.

Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 135: Shri Nirmala (OM nirmalAyai namaH)

In Namam 132 to 187, the Divine Mother’s Japarupam or Formlessness will be the described.

The Divine Mother is free from all impurities or ignorance.

Mala literally means bodily waste. It also means contamination or impurity.

In higher sense, Mala means ignorance that causes Moha or delusion.

If the self is covered by ignorance, the devotee does not gain the knowledge to seek salvation.

There are three varying levels of impurities, namely

1.       Anava, is due to bondage arising from not knowing the real nature of the self. This is the smallest or subtlest impurity. Anu is atom or smallest element. The Divine Mother does not even have this smallest anava impurity due to Her extreme purity.
2.       Bheda is due the Maya resulting in perception of duality. In such a state, the duality of self and non self difference is not recognized.
3.       Karmika is due to bondages of Karma, which cause birth and death cycle or samsara for the devotee.

Some devotees will have only anava impurity. Some others will have both anava and bheda impurities. Some others will have all three impurities, called by the name sakalas, meaning Totally Impure. (Please also see earlier namam 113 “Bhavanagamya” discussion).

If the wet soil is in the ground, it can probably beautify the earth. But if the same wet soil is on a human’s dress it is called dirt or impurity as it does not match. For the Divine Mother there are no such impurity what so ever where so ever, even the smallest or subtlest.

For the devotee with deep devotion to the Divine Mother, She removes even such smallest impurities.

The Divine Mother is free from all impurities. She is forever pure.

Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 134: Shri Nirlepa (OM nirlepAyai namaH)

In Namam 132 to 187, the Divine Mother’s Japarupam or Formlessness will be the described.

Actions bring out impurities. The Divine Mother is free from all impurities, though She is active, governing the universe. No impurity sticks to Her.

In the case of devotees, Ignorance or Maya covers the true self. They apply coatings to all things to cover their impurities or inferior qualities.

The Divine Mother no additive to beautify Her. She does not need such coatings to improve Her beauty.

The Divine Mother is without any ignorance. She will not have any bindings due to Her actions to control the universe. This is similar to the lotus leaf which does not get wet, even when lying in water.

Lord Krsna in Gita says that actions do not bind Him neither does He has any desire for the fruit of His actions.

A devotee’s true spiritual fulfillment comes when he or she rises to this state of not having any desire for the fruit of his actions.

Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 133: Shri NirAnjAnA (OM nira ~ njanAyai namaH)

In Namam 132 to 187, the Divine Mother’s Japarupam or Formlessness will be the described.

The Divine Mother is bound to nothing and is unattached. She is perfect at all times.

Anjanana is the black eye shadow liquid. Niranjana is a state with no ignorance arising from the illusion or Maya.

The view seen by the eyes smeared with Maya is not the same as that seen by the eyes free of Maya.

Ranjana is desire. Niranjana is desireless. Impure vasana of the mind creates attachment, giving joy on gaining an object and anger at its loss.

She is everywhere in this universe eliminating the ignorance. She has no blemishness resulting from ignorance.

Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 132: Shri NirAdhArA (OM nirAdhArAyai namaH)

In Namam 132 to 187, the Divine Mother’s Japarupam or Formlessness will be the described.

The Divine Mother does not need any support to Herself. She is without any dependence.

She transcends the six chakras without any support. She is everywhere. She is above, both the mind and words.

Dependence on anything needs support. She being the Supreme Self, does not need any support.

When his mind settles, the devotee sees the Supreme self, for, the earth, water, fire and air, the sky are the supporting elements.

As hw the sky is self supporting, the Divine Mother is also self supporting.

She is the form of worshipful form, called Niradhara.

There are two kinds of worships. One, the external worship with vedic and tantric methods. Another internal worship.

First is called Sadhara, with images and sacred syllables. The second one, called Niradhara is the best form of worship which is not based on any form.

When the mind is dissolved during meditation, the devotee realizes the Supreme Self. For salvation and freedom from samsara the devotee should worship the Divine Mother with total devotion.

She is free from all the attributes in this vast universe.

Attainment of pure intellect is the object of Niradhara. This is described by assertion, negation, positive definition and elimination of attributes.

She is without support. Finite and infinite; mortal and immortal and with power and without power are all refer to Braham. For an ignorant devotee, he needs knowledge, knowing thing and the knower. But for the Supreme Self such supporting things are not needed.

Formless worship is known as Niradhara.
