One of the Shiva’s name given in the vedic suktaham is Manonmana. The Divine Mother (in this respect, known as Manonmani) uplifts the mind of the devotee.
She holds the point just below Brahmanada. This is the eighth point upwards from the middle of eyebrows. The eighth points are listed: indu, redhini, nada, nadanta, sakthi, Vyapini, samana and unmani or manonmani.
These are very subtle locations to be
learned directly from a Guru only. The function of this highest form of the
mind in humans can be called Unmaniam or Manonmaniam. Depending on the mind’s nobleness,
the soul nears the Supreme Being. The Divine Mother’s sakthi or power acts in
innumerable ways in this universe. Her sakthi is unique in itself. Such highest
sakthi in the Divine Mother is also called Manonmani.
Manonmani is one of the yogic state in which the eyes of Lord Shiva, are slightly opened without blinking, the breath is controlled without inhaling or exhaling and the mind is held blank, free from speculation and doubt. The Divine Mother is meditated upon in this state. The Tripuropanisad says that when the mind is free from all sensory links and is focused on the heart, the yogi reaches the Manonmani state. The Divine mother bestows such a state to yogis.
The state of mind, being controlled by the yoga, is also called Manonmaniam. There are also Manonmani yoga Mudras. The state of the soul, freeing itself from worldly attachments in reaching the Supreme Being is called Mamnonmaniam, which represents the Divine Mother’s state.
Bhrannaradiya says that when the
object of meditation, the act of meditation and the mediator all become one,
the state of Manonmani arises. It gives the flow of nectar of knowledge that is
a total experience of the Supreme Being. The experience of the Divine Mother at
that state is also called Manonmani.
