Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 851: Shri Janma mrtyu jara tapta jana visranti dayini (ōṃ janmamṛtyujarātaptajana viśrāntidāyinyai namaḥ)

The Divine Mother gives peace and tranquility (repose) to those people’s sorrow ad affected due to birth, death, and loss of strength especially from old age.

A child in kindergarten class moves up, to become an educated person. Human being starting at sutra level moves up to highest maturity through many births and reach Brahman. Humans in current life start as youngster to reach adulthood and old age. A student can reach a highly educated level though hard work. Likewise, in a society humans start at sutra caste to move to Brahmin. For this to happen to a human, birth, old age, and death cycle is helping. In each of the Varna stages humans must perform his dharma as required for him. Rest is also required for human beings. In Himalaya yatra or travel, the people with good strength complete the journey early but people with poor physical strength, will take a longer time to complete the total yatra.

The Divine Mother is helping to bring up all universal beings at various Varna stages. For such improvements to happen, the humans cannot avoid the birth, aging, and death cycles. To prepare for the next up movement, humans need appropriate rest. The Divine Mother provides all improvements, rest and other needs to all humans is the understanding of this Namam.

The people due to their birth, aging and death get sorrow; the Divine Mother gives peace and tranquility to such people.

Birth, aging, and death are necessary evils as souls mature to reach the Brahman. These actions cannot be desired. They happen due to accumulated papa karmas of the souls. The souls must live through such states and see their enjoyment turn into sorrow in current life. Sorrow can get deeper. These states are like keeping the souls in fire pits; when people take refuge in the Divine Mother, She removes their sorrows and gives peace, tranquility, and rest. At Brahman, She grants Liberation from life and death cycle. Also She provides the needed rest for souls in between lifes. The old age creates more sorrow for souls than the perceived fear to look for the forthcoming death. This pain or sorrow can be much more than actual birth or death; the rest is needed in between births. Soul’s rest is temporary. Final rest in Brahman is permanent, which happens when the souls reach Brahman or the Divine Mother Grants Liberation to souls. That is the great rest or peace (visranti) granted by the Divine Mother. She also gives peace and tranquility to all living beings in this universe.

Peace (visranti) from sorrows of samsara (life and death cycle) is getting Liberation or Moksha; “One who gives Liberation” is the Divine Mother. Worldly life leads to sorrow; the more enjoyable life seems, the greater the sorrow one gets later. When one loses his things that are dear to him, Sorrow becomes greater. Only detachment reduces that sorrow happening. Vairagya (detachment) arises from lack of desires and passions. Vairagya is taking total refuge in the Divine Mother and attaining permanent peace (visranti).

The Divine Mother gives peace and tranquility.
