Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 326: Shri Karuna rasa sagara (OM karuNArasasAgarAyai namaH)

In Namams 275 to365, the Divine Mother’s  many forms providing benefits to Her devotees in great details are discussed.

The Divine Mother is the ocean of essence of compassion.

If anyone gets a small amount of compassionate kindness, then he will learn to accept and deal with the troubles in his day-today life. For a child having many troubles and causing lots of problems, its mother’s kindness to it will be the cure. The Divine Mother’s kindness starts at human mother’s love level and goes up higher. Matured people who get the Divine Mother’s kindness enjoy Her ocean of love and compassion.

Rasam indicates the essence in pure concentrated liquid form; when we talk about the ocean, it indicates immense, immeasurable amount of water. There is more water in the sea than in land. Sea water turns into cloud and later as rain in mostly land area, with the Divine Mother’s scheme of things. For various creatures at many levels, Her kindness is reflected in various forms. Social life for Her devotees flourishes due to the Divine Mother’s kindness.

For devotees discarding the materialistic desires and seeking the liberation, the Divine Mother provides extra ordinary kindness or ocean of essence of compassion. For a child, its mother provides various objects to play due to her affection and love for the child; when the child throws out all objects and still cries, its mother leaving all her on hand jobs, will run to help out the child. Similarly the Divine Mother shows Her essence of compassion in providing all the devotees materialistic needs and later to reach the Brahman.

The dhyana sloka (meditation verse) for this Shasranamam calls the Divine Mother, “Karunatarangitaksi” with the meaning that Her eyes reflect waves of compassion. Her compassion is like a fountain which never dries up. Many instances about Her kindness toward helpless people are related in Puranas. For Her devotees, Her sympathy at the time of their needs had and is been given without their asking; She leads them to much greater kinder state of liberation. Every human or creature in this universe would have experienced and can list many instances of the Divine Mother’s Kindness they got as protection at the critical times of need or distress.

In ancient days, Gurus would initiate their disciples with one mantra; then they would advise the disciples to recite Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam daily to get the compassionate and kind the Divine Mother to look after their welfare.

The ever compassionate, the Divine Mother will come running to rescue of Her devotees in trouble. She has many oceans of essence of compassion with Her.
