Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 192: Shri Sukha Prada (OM sukhapradAyai namaH)

In Namams 188 to 198, the Divine Mother’s  glory is described.

The Divine Mother gives comfort and happiness to Her devotees. She is embodiment of Ananda or Bliss.

In this universe, misery is common among devotees. The Divine Mother saves the devotees from miseries and prepares them for happiness and comfort.

By saving from sorrows, the Divine Mother with Her kindness gives a chance to the devotees to be happy. The devotees then understand that ultimate happiness in attaining Supreme Self. She is One who helps the devotees to mature in this fashion.

In previous Namam we have seen the Divine Mother’s kindness in removing dukha "worries and problems" for Her devotees. It is not just enough to remove the devotees’ problems; devotees require her blessings to live happily. It can be like medical treatment; it is not enough if the doctor cures the disease but it is also needed to bring the person to normal health. So the Divine Mother not only removes devotees’ worries and problems but also bless them to lead a happy(Sukha) life.

For a devotee, overcoming the miseries is not enough. The devotees have to look for happiness, which is in two levels. At one level, the Divine Mother gives to devotees their happiness in the current life and in the next; they are granted the everlasting ultimate happiness.

The Taittiniya Upanishad (11-7) states “only after obtaining this Essence does one become blissful”. The Divine Mother says “Children, the Mother who gave birth to you look after you in this life. Even that is rare today. But the Divine Mother’s aim is to lead you to happiness in all your births”.

Looking for happiness within oneself without seeking other external things, will give eternal happiness, which is but the Divine Mother’s grace on Her devotees.

                                                              Shri Durga Devi
