Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 186: Shri Nir apaya (OM nirapAyAyai namaH)

In Namam 132 to 187, the Divine Mother’s Japarupam or Formlessness will be the described.

The Divine Mother cannot be overcome by any destructive force

Apayam can be said to a far more opposing bigger force. A bigger force than the devotee causes fear from which the devotee should stay away. If that force has destructibility, then it will become worrisome for the devotee. The Divine Mother does not have any such greater force than Her to threaten. The devotee goes through repeated fears for many reasons. The devotee gets into an accident. He gets pain in his body. These are forms of training for him to improve. By this process all universal creatures mature. The human mature more. He starts to think about the Divine force to help him. On worshipping the Divine Mother, the devotee gets Her grace for him to avoid fear. He increases his devotion to Her. The Divine Mother is causing all old items being discarded and new ones being created. She Herself does not have destruction, being the Nir apaya.

One usually is afraid of other things bigger than him. If we consider the Advaida principles, the Almighty, here, the Divine Mother is not different from Her devotees. As She does not have to be afraid of anyone in this Universe, one surrendering to Her need not be afraid of other things. That is to say that no one will get afraid of himself because of Her protection to him. When The Divine Mother created everything, things are under Her control; Others can not threaten Her.

Apaya can also mean threat of separation. Lord Krsna in Gita says “Everything is arranged in Me, as pearls in a necklace”. There is no threat of separation for the Divine Mother.

The Divine Mother is wide spread or omnipresent and all pervading in this universe. She cannot be separated; She is imperishable by any far bigger opposing force.
