Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 623: Shri Kevala (ōṃ kēvalāyai namaḥ)

The Goddess Divine Mother is the ‘Absolute’, as She is complete, independent and without any attributes from within.

The Divine Mother is independent, and She stays as is. Similarly, souls will not mix and stay independent. When we look deeper, three Guna variations and their glories, become available to the soul. When all the graces and glories are hidden, there is no more attachment. This independent state is called Kevala or fourth identified state Turiya. For a devotee to shrink into Kevala state is ideal. Considering the Divine Mother as Kevala and praying to Her, lifts the soul to higher maturity towards the Brahman.

The Divine Mother stays alone independently. Any material will have a form, colour and action. It is possible to separate these things and learn about them. The one staying alone independently is called Kevalam, as we have seen earlier. The Divine Mother is said to be in avyakta form, (meaning as in the original created level). She is independent and as one spreading all over the universe. She is in a full and complete state.

The word Kevala has lower meaning and status than spoken now.  The non understandable Brahman is not needed for people with kama thinking; so kevala has a lower rating. Actually, kevala is highly respectable state. Later in Namam 925;” Kaulini kevala”, with meaning: that the Divine Mother is worshipped as Pure Knowledge (Consciousness).

Kevala is one who is not touched by changes arising from Her own kind, from others or from within. She is in the form of absolute knowledge, which is the knowledge of the Brahman.

The Divine Mother is called Kevala, the absolute and complete.

Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 622: Shri Kleenkari (ōṃ klīṅkāryai namaḥ)

The Goddess Divine Mother had created the Baja mantra syllable ‘Kleem’.

Kleem is a bija syllable, a bija kama mantra. Souls all have Kama instinct and as a result universal beings are born. When the devotee treats his kama feelings as the Divine Mother’s grace, his maturity increases. Yogins treat kama as disease, but the common man may consider that as the divine grace from the creator, the Divine Mother. During gruhastashvam, the humans produce children and offer as gift to the world. To implement that the Divine Mother is in bija kama mantra as klim, the kamabija.

Kleem is bija syllable, which is part of the Kamaraja peetam. Iccha and attracting shaktis are in this bija mantra. The Divine Mother has it in Her form. Lord Shiva’s Iccha shakti klim is the same bija mantra also.

Lord Kamesvara is called Kleenkara?; His spouse the Divine Mother is Keeinkari.

The Divine Mother created the Kamabija mantra.

Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 621: Shri Divya vigraha (ōṃ divyavigrahāyai namaḥ

The Goddess Divine Mother has a divine body.

The Divine Mother has a beautiful structure or body form. If we observe every one of Her forms, there is immense beauty in each one of them. When a body form is of such high-quality beauty, it is called Vigraham.

Identified asuras originated through the Divine Mother’s creation process. The humans gain strength to fight out evil motives of asuras through the Divine Mother’s graces. They become used to good things and lifestyles; such ability to fight the evil is all available naturally in the universe due to the Divine Mother’s actions; She is rightly called ‘Divya Vigraha’

The Divine Mother has beautiful form. Vigraha can mean the body also. Her vigraha has beauty and divinity. Vigraha can mean fighting also and Divya means the sky, thereby indicating that She fought in the sky without touching the ground to defeat the asuras.

In Markandeya Purana the Divine Mother is described as fighting and destroying the asuras in the sky. The demons, who had magical powers, were experts in fighting in the sky. In order to destroy them, the Divine Mother also took to the sky and fought without any support. Thus She came to be known as ‘Divya Vigraha’ as interpreted in this Namam.

The Divine Mother has divine body.

Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 620: Shri Aneka koti brahmanda janani (ōṃ anēkakōṭibrahmāṇḍajananyai namaḥ )

The Goddess Divine Mother is the creator of many billions of universes.

The Divine Mother creates uncountable large galaxies in this universe. The distance between the Sun and Earth is about 9 nine billion miles. Sun’s rays reach the earth in about 8,25 minutes; the Sun’s rays travel about one billion miles in one minute. Some stars are far away from Earth, and they send their rays, and those rays take many years of time to reach the Earth; this is to make a judgment on the kind of distance from the earth. Whatever is viewable by our eyes forms a very big galaxy. With so many big galaxies spread all over the universe, who can measure its actual size?

In every galaxy, all beings and their souls have the Divine Mother as their creator; likewise for all static galaxies, She is the creator. So, She gets the name ‘Virat’; when the same the Divine Mother takes care of all the beings in the total universe, She gets the name ‘Svarat’; when She does both of above actions together, She is known as ‘Samrat’. So, the devotee who tries to understand the Divine Mother’s forms and glories has his soul settled within the Divine Mother. All these are created and ruled by the Divine Mother. So She s celebrated as” Aneka Koti Brahmanda Janani”.

Brahmanda basically means Brahman-as-egg. Everything in this universe is egg-shaped; the Sun, Moon and atoms all have nearly spherical forms.  A collection of atoms may take different shapes, but at microcosmic level, all are egg-shaped. The ancient sages say there are many millions of worlds in this universe. Modern day science agrees to talk about many galaxies. The sages have spoken of these objects many years ago. These words are examples of the foresight that the rishis brought to the analytical study of the universe. The Divine Mother is Mother of countless many billions of such worlds in this universe.

As we have seen She is also called Virat, Svarat and Samrat depending on the kind of creative and sustaining actions She takes. Vikaras are five gross elements, five sensory organs, five organs of action and the mind, making a total of sixteen modifications or shodahsa elements. Svarat is the power that takes pride as the collective subtle body (Linga Sarira) of the cosmos. Samrat is the combination of the above actions done by the Divine Mother.

Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 619: Shri Pavanaakrtih (ōṃ pāvanākṛtayē namaḥ)

The Divine Mother has sacred form.

The Divine Mother has the capacity, history, and wisdom to purify all things and souls of all universal beings. Universal life is due to desires and ignorance; the souls are suffering with birth and rebirth cycle. Those who read and hear Her glories and think about them can purify themselves. When the light comes in, the darkness disappears. Similarly, the penance and meditation on Her, leads to superior knowledge and wisdom.

The Lord came as young Krishna. Gopis used their five senses and surrendered to Him. Similarly, during mediation, if the Divine Mother’s beautiful form is visible to the devotee, he realizes happiness. There is nothing equivalent to this supreme happiness state for the devotee.

The Divine Mother’s darshan gives purity to the devotees. Akrti means arising in form. She has the capacity to purify things, which is called ‘Pavanam’. The Divine Mother’s form has such purifying nature. For those glorifying Her by singing and thinking about Her, She spreads the purity, means krti action. So those who hear and talk about her superior actions also get purified.

Akrti can also mean ‘form’ and ‘wisdom or knowledge.’ The Divine Mother arises in form and appear or create the universe. Praising Her actions create purity of mind and awakens jnana, wisdom.

Yajnavalkya smrti points out, “penance and knowledge are means of purifying the embodied soul. The knowledge purifies the intellect, and the soul Ksetrajva is purified by the knowledge of the Supreme Divine. For the bhutatma (embodied soul) penance and knowledge help to purify the mind and control the organs of perception, the mind, and the intellect.

Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 618: Shri Parama (ōṃ paramāyai namaḥ)

The Goddess Divine Mother is the Supreme.

When the Divine Mother is in Universal form, She is in many souls or beings; when She is beyond universe, She is called Para or Supreme. When the Brahman identified Param is changing to Shakti form, She is called Parama. She is in manifested and un-manifested. There is nothing foreign to Her. The sea surface is seen by our eyes, but the deeper sea levels are not visible to our eyes; but still in total is called the sea. Similarly manifested or un-manifested forms are all the Parashakti or Parama or the Divine Mother.

When we cannot understand the Brahman, She provides a manifested form and show to us what the Brahman is all about. She is param or the Shakti of Lord Shiva. She is beyond all for original creations in the universe. She is the Adishakti, glorious and is far beyond us.

The Supreme Brahman is without beginning and undivided. The Divine Mother is the power that makes that Brahman appear to be divided and take birth in various forms. That which is divided becomes measurable. Thus, the Divine Mother is the one who measures the Supreme.

Para is known as Shiva and ma is Lakshmi. The Divine Mother is Shiva’s Lakshmi or Shiva’s glories. Also, the Divine Mother is the one who transcends the four forms of Para Brahman namely: Purusa (the cosmic man), Avyakta (un-manifested), Vyakta (manifested) and Kala (time).

The Divine Mother is the ‘Supreme’.

Shri Lalitha Sahasranamam: Namam 617: Shri Atma (ōṃ ātmanē namaḥ)

The Goddess Divine Mother is the ‘Self’ in all beings.

The Divine Mother is in Atma (soul) form in all universal beings.  When we say to provide food for the Atma, it becomes Annamaya; when we say Atma had disappeared, it means Brahmamaya; when we say Atma is confused or is suffering, it means manomaya. When humans can understand things as they are, we say that Atma is fully informed, meaning in vidyamaya; when we say Atma is happy, it represents Anandhamaya. In general, Atma pervades countless billions of universal beings. This interpretation is that all souls are in the Divine Mother’s form.

Atma refers to jivaatma or soul. In Lord Shiva’s eight forms Atma is the eighth form. Atma will get whatever it desires and enjoy it, meaning Atma is the Divine Mother. Atma can mean body, mind, Brahman, actions, boldness, firmness, nature, and intelligence; the Divine Mother is in all these forms.

The Self (Atman) in each jiva (soul) or jivatma is the same as the Supreme Self (Paramatman). As Adi Sankaracarya makes it clear, “Jiva is not different or distinct from Brahman.”

Linga Purana says, “Just as sparks in fire, all the jivas exists. Shiva, who is the Supreme Self.” According to Shiva Purana, “The Supreme eight bodies of Shiva are called Atman, it pervades all the earlier other seven, hence Shiva is the Universe.” And Vaisishta says,” The bodies of embodied souls are from the Divine Mother and all the embodied souls are part of Shiva (through their unison between Lord Shiva and the Divine Mother).

The Divine Mother is the ‘Self’ in all universal beings.
